VANUATU CHEVENING SCHOLARS
In the academic year 2003/2004 the ni-Vanuatu post-graduate students visiting the UK
were :

Fred SAMUEL -
(Nguna Island) was educated at Malapoa College and the
South Bank Institute of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, where he gained a
Diploma in Electronic & Electrical Engineering.
Following graduation, Fred obtained a post with TVL (Telecom Vanuatu Limited) where he
then worked in the Commercial Services section. During his Chevening year
in the UK he was
awarded a Masters Degree at Coventry University, with Distinction, in Operational Communications. Cable & Wireless (TVL’s
parent company) co-sponsored this scholarship, together with those of 47 other students from other
commonwealth countries, all of whom studied post-graduate degrees
in a number of telecommunications fields). On completion of his UK Chevening
studies, Fred returned to Vanuatu in December, 2003, when he was appointed as
the new head of Commercial Services, a management post in technical operations.

Paul
KAUN -
(Uripiv Island, Malekula) was educated at Matevulu
College, Santo, and the
university of the South Pacific in Fiji, where he gained an economics degree.
Paul arrived in the UK in September, 2003, to study for a Masters in
Monetary Economics &
Finance
at the university of Glasgow. Paul left the UK
to return to Vanuatu in September, 2004. He is currently the Principal
Economist, in the Department of Economic and Social Development, Ministry of
Finance and Economic Management.

Kiel LOUGHMAN -
(Tanna island) was educated at Matevulu College and the
university of Papua New Guinea, where he gained a law degree. Kiel
arrived in the UK in September, 2003, to study for a Masters in International &
Commercial Law at the university of Sheffield. Kiel returned to Vanuatu in
October 2004 and took up his former post as Senior State Counsel in the
State Law Office
