Archaeological
Dig
at Teouma
|
| |
| One day following their
arrival in Port Vila, most of the group travelled to the Vanuatu National
Museum's archaeological sight at Teouma in South Efate. Teouma has
turned out to be the earliest archaeological site yet found in Vanuatu,
dating back more than 3,000 years. The group witnessed the
extraordinary finds made in the course of the dig and really enjoyed an
absorbing presentation by Professor Matthew Spriggs. Shortly before
the group's arrival two more skeletons had been found (see photograph)
together with yet more shards of Lapita pottery. Most of those who
made the journey to Teouma voted it one of the most interesting activities
of the visit to Vanuatu. Thank you Professor Spriggs and the Museum
team who made it all possible. |
