Each year, the British Friends of Vanuatu aims to support education in Vanuatu by replacing, updating or installing a library of English reference books in one of the country's secondary schools.

In this project we are assisted by the Bank Line, a UK based shipping company which has for many years supported this valuable BFOV project by shipping large quantities of books, free of charge, from the United Kingdom to Vanuatu.

Bank Line's multi-purpose vessel service offers a fast and direct monthly service to Papeete, Auckland,Noumea, Suva, Lautoka, Port Vila and Santo and onward to  Honiara, Lae, Madang, Kimbe, Rabaul, Noumea, Suva, Lautoka, Port Vila and Santo and onward to Honiara, Lae, Madang, Kimbe, Rabaul,  Oro Bay and Durban from Hull and other European ports of loading.  The project also depends on the British High Commission in Port Vila for  help in identifying suitable schools, providing communication links with project staff and receiving, shipping and presenting the books following importation.  In recent years the British High Commission in Port Vila has contributed 50% of the cost of the annual book purchases making this a significantly increased project in terms of the quantity and quality of books supplied under this project.
